The singer announced the happy news on her social media this morning (24 Jan). On her Instagram, she posted a selfie along with the caption in Mandarin: “Yes, I’m now as fat as two people.” The 39-year-old singer’s caption was a cheeky play on the Chinese idiom “pan ruo liang ren” which means to be different from one’s usual self.
The news was also confirmed in a joint statement by Stefanie’s record label, Universal Music Group, as well as Make Music, an entertainment company which she founded.
"We would appreciate if fans and media alike can give (Stefanie) and her family the privacy they enjoy. At the same time, we thank everyone for your concern and well wishes as we count down to the arrival of the baby!"
Stefanie has a five-year-old son with her Dutch-Indonesian husband Nadim van der Ross, who she married in May 2011.
Stefanie had revealed at the end of last year that she plans to have Baby No. 2 in 2018. When she headed to Taiwan to promote her latest album, A Dancing Van Gogh, last November, she halted all promotional activities as she was feeling under the weather, leading to speculation that she may be pregnant. But as Stefanie herself was unaware that she was pregnant then, she had taken to IG to deny the rumours. She only found out about her pregnancy after that, but waited until she was past her first trimester before revealing the happy news.
According to a news report, Stefanie’s publicist said that the singer is "in good spirits", and will complete all ongoing promotional activities for her album until February. The same report also said that the gender of the baby is not yet known. Their second child is due in July.
