Star Search on the hunt for fresh acting talent

The Mandarin talent show returns after almost a decade

Star Search on the hunt for fresh acting talent

Aspiring actors have something to look forward to this year as talent contest Star Search will be making its return after almost a decade. The previous edition of Star Search was held in 2010.

The announcement, which was made at this year’s Star Awards, has sparked a buzz as talent scouting kicked off at tertiary institutions last week.

In the coming weeks, talent scouts Quan Yi Fong, Dasmond Koh and Irene Ang will hit the streets in search for the next big star, so if you have a passion for acting, are between the ages of 17 and 35 and speak Mandarin fluently (and nationality doesn’t matter), this is where you want to be.

This is also your chance to glean tips from the experts on how to showcase your best side during the auditions, which will be held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza and Bugis+ Atrium on May 4 and May 12 respectively. The final will take place in November.

Star Search was first introduced in 1988, and Zoe Tay emerged as the champion (and has become the Ah Jie of today). Other notable alumni who are still active in showbiz include Chen Hanwei, Romeo Tan, Jeffrey Xu, Andie Chen, Desmond Tan, Felicia Chin, Qi Yuwu, Vivian Lai, Christopher Lee, Chew Chor Meng and Aileen Tan.
