There are few celebrities who love animals as much as Sammi Cheng and her husband Andy Hui. It’s said that the couple, who have no kids, had stepped up to care for a stray cat named Coco that one of their neighbours had abandoned. So devoted Sammi and Andy were to caring for their new fur friend that they had built a ‘nesting area’ for Coco in the carpark of their estate and would take turns to bring the cat to the vet. Sadly, Coco passed away two weeks ago at the ripe old age of 18 and Sammi and Andy, who had arranged for a private cremation for Coco, are said to be inconsolable.
On Instagram, Sammi wrote an extremely heartfelt and wordy post where she revealed that she would still cry uncontrollably whenever she thinks of Coco. “I know that you have fulfilled your life’s purpose, which is to love and be loved. The joy that you have brought everyone is enough for me cherish for the rest of my life.”
Sammi also likened Coco’s cremation to the running of a marathon, that no matter how tough and anguishing it was, she had made sure that she was there for the whole process. “I remember that I had no work that day and so I was able to be with you all the way until I got your ashes.”
“The security guard accompanied us too and he had loved you like you were his family. I let him be the one to turn on the fire in the furnace and in that second, seeing the fire burn so brightly, I had to bid you farewell in my heart.”
In an interview, Andy revealed that he and his wife had decided care to for Coco after they found out that the cat’s owners had abandoned him. (Oh, did we not mention that Coco is male? Turns out, Sammi had given him a female name ’cos she likes androgynous names.) Andy also mentioned that all their neighbours would pitch in to help care for Coco too, adding: “It was not a big task, but it does show that there is love and compassion in this world.”
Okay, can someone pass us some tissues now?
