Angela Chang and Ouyang Nana recently caused an uproar among their fellow Taiwanese when they were unveiled as two of the star performers at today’s (Sep 30) CCTV gala showcase celebrating China’s National Day, which falls on October 1. Nana seems to be bearing the brunt of the hate as she will be singing classic Chinese patriotic song ‘My Motherland’ along with other artistes.

It got so bad that they were slammed for being bootlickers for the sake of earning renminbi. Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and Mainland Affairs Council even announced that an investigation is underway to determine if there was any violation of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, which carries a maximum fine of NT$500,000 (S$23,600).

According to the regulations, Taiwanese citizens are not allowed to engage in “any cooperative activity involving political nature with any individual, juristic person, organization, or other institution of the Mainland Area” without permission from the competent authorities.
