Korean superstar Rain, 34, announced via a handwritten note on Tuesday (Jan 16) that he will marry his girlfriend, K-drama actress Kim Tae Hee, 36. Back in the early 2000s, Tae Hee was known as the prettiest actress in Korea and her popularity skyrocketed after she starred in K-dramas like Stairway To Heaven and Iris.
The letter, penned in Korean, read: “Hello, I hope everyone’s healthy this cold winter. This is Jung Ji Hoon. Sixteen years have passed since I debuted. The fans that were with me all that time have become beautiful women and mothers.
"Now I, as the oldest son in my household, also seek to become a great husband. [Kim Tae Hee] has always been there for me - unmoving, in sad times and in happy times, and she never fails to amaze me. Our trust and love for each other is as strong as ever, and we’ve decided to take the leap.
As the current times are unstable, we will be as quiet and humble as possible with our wedding ceremony. As such, we apologise for not revealing details to the public.
Thank you again to everyone for sending me so much love over 16 years. I will continue to move forward with my career, both as a singer and actor, with responsibility and modesty.
"She is the best present to me.”
Rain also released a new single 'The Best Present' over the weekend, which he later revealed to be a song about Kim Tae Hee. The song, Rain's first release since 2014, is a collaboration between him and Psy.
The celeb couple first met in 2011 while shooting a TV commercial together and they started dating a year later. Rain made headlines when he was in the army for going on dates with Tae Hee while on military duty.
Rain and Tae Hee will reportedly tie the knot at a Catholic church in Seoul in a small private ceremony with their family members in attendance on Thursday (Jan 19).
