On December 22, the chief executive of Hongkong broadcasting station TVB issued an open letter to all employees, revealing that the company would not be issuing year-end bonuses to all employees, including its artistes. Additionally, there will be no salary increases this year.

In the letter, the chief executive also asked for everyone to “join forces to allow the company to tide through this unique year”. According to reports, TVB had reported a loss of HK$293mil (S$50.2mil) in the first half of the year, which might explain why they had to tighten their purse strings.

The chief executive also shared that with the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, the pandemic is expected to die down soon, making 2021 a “year of recovery” for the company.
