No Star Awards This Year, Bigger Event Planned For April 2021
The decision was made in light of the ongoing battle against COVID-19.
Back in February, Mediacorp announced that this year’s Star Awards will be postponed to the second half of 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the date has been pushed back yet again.
This morning (Aug 7), Mediacorp released a statement announcing their decision to combine Star Awards 2020 with Star Awards 2021, with the ceremony slated to be held on April 18 next year. This means there will be a wider pool of nominees as the qualifying period stretches from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.
It also means Felicia Chin, Zheng Geping, and Dennis Chew, who each have nine Top 10 Most Popular Artistes trophies, will have to wait even longer to find out if they can ‘graduate’ to become All-Time Favourite Artistes with their tenth win. Hang in there, guys!
