Ever since Carina Lau’s new drama Half A Lifelong Romance started airing in China, it’s been met with really bad reviews. Expectations were high because it’s the 54-year-old actress’ first TV drama in 12 years, and the show is adapted from a very famous novel by acclaimed author Eileen Chang. (P/S: She's the one who wrote Lust, Caution.)

Most of the criticism is actually directed at Carina’s casting — the character she plays starts off as a twentysomething nightclub hostess, which despite how youthful Carina looks, still requires a massive of leap of faith.
