When Hongkong actress Myolie Wu started dating businessman Philip Lee in 2014, reports about their blossoming romance dominated headlines for weeks. At that time, the media weren’t quite impressed with Philip. Not only did he have a reputation as a playboy, the media also regarded him as “not good enough” for the actress, who was one of Hongkong's most popular actresses.

While the couple, who got married in 2015, seemed to ignore the naysayers, it turns out all the speculation had taken a toll on their relationship. In a recent interview, Myolie, 40, shared that the reports of her supporting Phillip financially had affected him badly.
She said: “He was unhappy. I’m very thankful to him for being so understanding. At the time, it was an obstacle in our relationship. I was afraid of scaring him off.” She also admitted that there was no way for her to help him overcome this hurdle. Phillip eventually got over the negativity, gained confidence in his own abilities and learned not to take the criticism to heart.
