Mayday’s Shanghai concert unexpectedly cancelled nine days beforehand

Tickets to rock band Mayday’s concerts have always been a hot commodity, often selling out on the day of release itself.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the band will be dropping by Shanghai for a six-day concert as part of their Just Rock It!!! BLUE concert tour. The concerts were scheduled to be held on October 25, 26, 27, as well as on November 1, 2, 3.

In mid-October, the concert promoter announced that there will be an additional show on October 31 to accommodate all the fans who did not manage to grab tickets to the first six shows.

However, yesterday (Oct 22), concertgoers who had purchased tickets to the extra show received a notice of cancellation from the promoters, with details about the ticket refund process for the October 31 show.

The reason for the cancellation was not stated explicitly, with the message simply stating that the concert had been cancelled “for some reason”.

Many disappointed fans took to Weibo to voice their displeasure at the last minute cancellation, as well as the vague reasoning for doing so. Fans from other countries, who were planning to fly in for the concert, also shared that they had already purchased their plane tickets and made hotel bookings, all for naught.

Later that day, the concert promoters issued an official announcement, confirming the cancellation of the October 31 concert. However, they still did not give a proper reason for the cancellation.

Some netizens then speculated that the cancellation may have been due to the upcoming China International Import Expo, which will take place from November 5 to 10. As a number of event venues had been booked for the expo, the concert promoters might have run into issues getting the required number of security personnel for the extra show.

Despite the setback, a number of fans managed to find a silver lining, commenting, “At least Mayday will have another day to rest.”
