Beloved Hongkong showbiz legend Leslie Cheung may have passed away 17 years ago today (Apr 1), but he is still very much alive in the hearts of his fans, friends, and especially his partner of many years, Daffy Tong.

In the wee hours of this morning, Daffy updated his Instagram with a new, never-before-seen photo of the couple to mark Leslie's death anniversary.

“You left us 17 years ago, but I know that you are always missing us from another world, and that you are giving us encouragement especially during these grim times,” he wrote. “I hope that everyone will press on and work hard to overcome the pandemic together.”

Before his passing, Leslie was regarded as one of Asia's most popular and iconic stars, finding success as both a singer and an actor. However, he battled depression and, on April 1, 2003, he jumped to his death from the 24th storey of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hongkong.

He was 46 years old when he died, and would have turned 64 this September.
