The recent earthquake that hit Bali did not hamper the wedding celebrations of Hong Kong celebrity couple Kevin Cheng and Grace Chan. The two actors went ahead with their plans to get married on the island yesterday (August 12) at the luxury Bvlgari Resort Bali, after a week of speculation that they might change the destination to Phuket, Thailand instead.

The newly-weds kicked off their wedding rites with a morning ceremony which saw Kevin fetching his bride. It was followed by a tea ceremony and church wedding after lunch.

The church ceremony was held in a little chapel and the bride made her grand entrance in a floral applique wedding dress by renowned Hong Kong designer Noel Chu. Apart from reciting the traditional vows, the newly-weds also wrote vows of their own in which Kevin revealed how Grace had changed his mind towards marriage.

The 48-year-old, who will be turning 49 in two days’ time, said that when his mother urged him to settle down 10 years ago, he told her he would “probably never get married”. But that changed when he met Grace on the set of TVB drama Blue Veins in 2015.

“After knowing you for over a year, I desired to start a family with you, but the timing was not ripe then. I want to thank you – to thank you for being willing to marry me. May we continue with our lives hand in hand,” said Kevin.

Grace was choked with emotions by his sincere words and tears were seen brimming in her eyes, according to Hong Kong reports.

The 25-year-old wrote an equally touching vow for her husband, and said: “I want to thank you because you gave me confidence. When I hit a low point, was lost and didn’t have faith in myself, you encouraged me and told me to be strong and pay less heed to others’ comments and take in what my loved ones—including you—had to say.

“Secondly, I want to thank you because you understand me and I really look forward to having a family with you. Lastly, I want to thank you because I’ve learned what happiness means with you. The days I’ve spent with you are filled with warmth and love. Thank you, Kevin, for bringing me happiness! I love you!”

The wedding was attended by family members and close friends of the couple, including fellow celebrities like Wayne Liu and his wife, Kenneth Ma, Raymond Cho, Michael Tong, Stephen Wong and Natalie Tong, to name a few.

Grace was previously rumoured to be in her first trimester of pregnancy when wedding reports emerged but has since refuted these speculations in an Instagram post.
