Hong Kong actor Kenneth Ma is a familiar face to those who often watch Hong Kong dramas. Having made his acting debut 19 years ago, Kenneth has been nominated for a number of awards, but somehow has always missed out on the coveted TV King award.
On November 19, it was announced that Hong Kong actor Benjamin Yuen had come up tops for the TV King award in both the Malaysia and Singapore categories, leaving Kenneth in the dust.
The results did not go down well with fans of Kenneth, who expressed their disappointment online. According to his fans, Kenneth had toiled for TVB for his entire career without a complaint, and yet, continues to lose out on the award, despite being nominated for it numerous times.
A day after the awards ceremony, Kenneth’s girlfriend, Hong Kong actress Jacqueline Wong made an appearance at an event, where she was asked to comment on the uproar regarding the awards ceremony.
Jacqueline showed her support for Kenneth, sharing that though Kenneth has no desire to win awards, it was heartening to see the support from their industry colleagues.
Benjamin, who was at the same event, also shared more about his win, revealing that his phone was flooded with congratulatory messages after his double win. When asked about the controversy surrounding the win, the 37-year-old also expressed that he was shocked to hear that he had won both awards in the same night, and that he does feel a little upset that netizens feel that he does not deserve to win.
“I’m thankful for the netizen (who commented that I lack facial expressions when acting), this will allow me to work harder. Kenneth also sent me a message of congratulations. He has always been easy-going when it comes to awards, so I hope to work together with him again,” Benjamin shared.
