Earlier this month, Taiwanese actor Kai Ko declared on his Instagram account that he intends to open his own YouTube channel. Though there have not been any new developments regarding his YouTube career, it seems that the 27-year-old has set his sights on something bigger.

On Wednesday (May 22), an insider revealed that Kai and his father, businessman Ke Yao Zong, have started up their own media production company named Harvest 9 Road. According to the company registry records online, Harvest 9 Road’s capital stands at NT$10 million (approximately S$430,000). The company’s representative is listed as Kai’s father.

Harvest 9 Road is listed as one of the production companies behind the film Nina Wu. The movie is directed by Myanmar-born Taiwanese director, Midi Z, and stars Taiwanese actress Wu Ke Xi.

Kai had previously worked with both Midi Z and Ke Xi in 2016 for his comeback movie, The Road to Mandalay, which nabbed him a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards. Kai’s acting career had come to a halt in 2014, after he was nabbed for marijuana use along with Hong Kong singer-actor Jaycee Chan.

At the premiere of Nina Wu at the Cannes Film Festival, Kai’s father was seen standing next to the cast and director on the red carpet, revealing his involvement in the film.

When reached for a comment, Kai’s father shared that the capital for Harvest 9 Road was put up by him and Kai equally. He revealed that the company intends to focus on investing in upcoming films, as well as help newcomers get their start in the entertainment industry. He also shared that they have a number of films and television dramas that they are currently looking at.

When asked if Kai intends to appear in any upcoming works as an actor soon, his father replied, “If a suitable project comes up, he will definitely take part.”
