Julian Chen denies that his outrageous fashion choices are just to gain attention

"I’ve always been popular, so why do I still need to concern myself with this?”

Taiwanese singer-actor Julian Chen, who made his debut as part of the pop trio Little Tigers in the 1980s, has been making headlines for his outrageous dressing recently.

The 48-year-old focus on his acting ever since his breakout role as Fu Ertai in the popular period drama, My Fair Princess. However, in 2015, he took a two-year hiatus from the spotlight, returning in 2017 as a singer once again.

In a recent interview, Julian discussed the reason behind his hiatus, sharing that during that period of time, he felt as if he was unable to do anything right. As a result, he decided to take a short break from showbiz.

“During that period, I felt as if I particularly did not want to be in showbiz, and I felt like disappearing. I just didn’t want anyone to see me,” he shared.

After resting for a period of time, he returned with a new resolve to be himself and do whatever he wants, regardless of the public’s opinions. Since then, he has become bolder with his fashion choices, both on-stage, and off-stage.

Many netizens dismissed his dressing as “a ploy to hog the headlines”, which Julian refutes.

“Why would I want to become popular? I’ve always been popular, so why do I still need to concern myself with this?” he questioned in the interview, adding that he did not change his dressing just to become famous. “I only wish to add some flair into my record sheet.”
