On December 2, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen went public with her relationship, revealing that she is dating Malaysian businessman Alan, who is nine years younger than her.
The duo was paired up together for the dating reality show, Meeting Mr. Right, with the last episode airing last month. As it turns out, the two decided to make their reel-life romance a reality, and have since confirmed their relationship on their respective social media pages.
However, fans of Joe expressed their disapproval of Alan, sharing screenshots of Alan “engaging in conversation with scantily-clad models” on his Instagram page. Alan later refuted these screenshots, adding that these women were all his friends who were gainfully employed, and did not appreciate being called names by Joe’s fans.
Joe also apologised on behalf of her fans, and urged everyone to “refrain from disturbing other people”.
Yesterday (Dec 8), Joe left a number of comments on posts made by her fans on Weibo, where she was asked if she felt “pressured” by the negative attention her relationship has received.
The 40-year-old shared that she is not particularly affected by it, continuing, “I did not hide my relationship from everyone. Everyone has their own way of thinking. I’m not forcing anyone to support my relationship. Some people might be able to accept it, and some might not. I think that all these are okay. (Having) mutual respect for each other is the way we should behave."
She also urged her fans not to argue among themselves because of this, and also expressed her apologies to Alan’s friends.
