Local singers JJ Lin and Stefanie Sun yesterday (Jan 28) released a surprise track dedicated to those working on the frontlines of the battle against the Wuhan virus. Titled ‘Stay With You’, the lyrics were written by Stefanie, while the tune, vocals, mixing and mastering were done by JJ in his studio in Singapore.
Stefanie wrote on her Instagram, “JJ contacted me a few days ago. He wanted to write a song dedicated to those in the frontlines. ‘Stay With You’ is from our hearts. Thank you to all of you who have worked hard.”
JJ shared, “No matter the challenge, love will always prevail. I’ll stay with you.”
At the end of the video, the message, “There’s no city that’s locked down as long as love remains.” This is seen as a message specifically for those living in Hubei, as the province has been locked down in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The transport suspension first started in the city of Wuhan, which is the epicentre of the virus, and was quickly expanded to the entire province.
The video, which was also posted on Weibo, has been shared over 480,000 times at press time and amassed over 97,000 comments, with Chinese netizens expressing their thanks to the singers. “Thank you for the strength that you’ve lent us. All will be well,” one shared. Another wrote, “A brand new day will come after the darkest night. Thank you for reminding us that there is still hope.”
In related news, Stefanie has also donated an undisclosed amount of money to support Wuhan. Chinese singer Han Hong called for donations to aid the city, and she submitted her name as “Han Hong’s old friend, Madam Sun”.
