JJ Lin powers through concert in 35 degree heat

The Singapore singer-songwriter suffered a headache during the show, but completed his entire set as scheduled

Singapore singer-songwriter JJ Lin has close to two decades of experience of performing on stage, and has been praised as a professional performer who gives his all. He displayed this professionalism once again during his latest show in Xiangyang, China as part of his Sanctuary 2.0 tour.

The gig was held in Xiangyang Stadium, an outdoor venue on July 27, and with temperatures soaring in the humid summer season, the mercury reportedly hit 35 degrees Celsius on the day of his show. It didn’t help that there was a huge thunderstorm a day before the performance, making the area even more humid than usual.

JJ’s elaborate costumes, which he has donned for all his performances – most of which in indoor venues – were believed to have trapped an immense amount of heat, causing the 38-year-old much discomfort during the show.

After the show, he wrote on his Instagram, “One thing I’ve learnt from the stage is the art of not giving up. That you do what you do, no matter the cost. The show has to go on.”

JJ continued, “Halfway through the show, I felt like I was about to suffer a heat stroke. I had problems breathing and felt dizzy, but I told myself that I cannot disappoint the audience (who came to see me) and that I have to finish performing.”

His label, JFJ Productions, later issued a statement assuring that he is doing fine after the show. “His head hurt during the show, but he drank a lot of isotonic drinks after the show and he’s doing much better after a good night’s rest. Thank you for your concern.”
