Jackie Chan’s Nephew Slammed For Male-Centric Comment About Woman’s Make-Up On Fashion Reality Show

In the latest episode, the daughters were tasked with styling their mums for a photoshoot with the theme “Breakthrough” before parading their efforts in front of the judging panel.

Jeffrey’s reactions to two of the participants did not sit well with viewers.

First, he gave Hongkong actor Ken Lok’s wife, Chinese actress Lu Yan, nine points for beauty and only one point for actually displaying a “breakthrough”, explaining: “Even though you’re wearing cool clothes, you’re still as gentle and elegant as before, so I feel that it’s quite a pity.”

The 26-year-old was criticised for saying something that basically makes no sense and has no substance.

But what really got the internet’s goat was his comment about veteran Chinese singer Hang Tianqi, who sported a very bold and thick smokey eye.

“I think that men are not really able to accept this kind of black smokey eye ‘cos it feels like you can’t see the person,” he said. “It’s like blocking the beautiful windows to your soul, although I do like this kind of retro photo.”

Jeffrey was soon blasted for uttering such an insensitive and male-centric remark, with netizens complaining, “This kind of person can be a judge? He can’t even speak coherently”, and “Excuse me? Is your male point of view important? Isn’t the production team pulling down the standard of the fashion world by inviting this person to make such unprofessional statements that represent the male gaze?”

In fact, Jeffrey’s whole involvement in the show has been questioned as he has no notable fashion-related qualifications to speak of unlike his fellow judges, which include former supermodel Mary Ma, fashion photographer Zack Zhang, fashion designer Chen Xuzhi, and fashion editor Lucia Liu.

This has led to him being termed a zi yuan ka, a Chinese slang that’s used to describe stars who rely more on their money or connections — instead of their talents — to land jobs and become famous.

Jeffrey’s mum is the sister of Jackie’s wife, former Taiwanese actress Lin Fengjiao. Despite participating in many variety shows and releasing his own solo album, he doesn’t really have any representative work to speak of, making many suspect that he landed all his gigs thanks to his association with his famous uncle.
