2020 has only just begun, but the celebs have already sprung a number of surprises on us.

Among which is J-pop queen Ayumi Hamasaki’s sudden announcement that she is now a mother of a baby boy. The 41-year-old confirmed the news through her fan club website, TeamAyu, where she wished her fans a happy new year.

It all seemed like her usual message to welcome the New Year, before she revealed that she had given birth at the end of 2019 to “an angel”, and that she is having some trouble trying to balance out her life as a new mother. She also thanked her fans for their understanding and support as she shared that she is preparing to start her 2020 tour.

This sudden announcement has raised multiple questions from netizens, who wondered when she gave birth. She has been working throughout 2019, and fans wondered how she was able to pull off her hectic schedule while pregnant. Photos up to three weeks ago showed a still-svelte Ayumi hard at work.

In addition, Ayumi is believed to not be married. She was previously married to Austrian actor Manuel Schwarz from 2011 to 2012, and later to an American medical student named Tyson Bodkin from 2013 to 2016.

Japanese reports claim that the father of her child is a non-celebrity younger than her, and that Ayumi has no plans to get married for a third time.
