Hong Kong actor Wong He put his past experience as a police officer to good use on October 11, when he stepped in to direct traffic at a busy intersection in Mongkok.

The ongoing protests in the city have caused damage to public property, and among them are traffic lights. According to Hong Kong media, traffic lights in over 80 locations were affected, and to date, there are about 20 that are still not functional.

Among them was one between Nathan Road and Argyle Street. Netizens shared that despite the heavy traffic there, no traffic police was present. Wong He, who presumably passed by the area, decided to take it upon himself to help out.

Photos of the 52-year-old hard at work surfaced at about 2.30pm last Friday (Oct 11), as netizens wondered why a celebrity was directing traffic. He did so for about two hours, until traffic police arrived at the scene and requested for him to leave the job to them.

Another man who was wearing a reflective vest was also spotted helping Wong He, and he was also asked to leave with the actor at 4.30pm.

Netizens remarked that there were no officers on site directing traffic after the actor and the man left. However, when contacted, the Hong Kong police shared that they only dispatch officers to affected junctions during peak hours.
