Taiwanese media outlets have reported that Godfrey Gao’s body was sent back to Taipei yesterday (Dec 2). The late Taiwanese actor passed away on November 27 after collapsing on the set of Chinese variety show Chase Me.
Godfrey’s older brother, parents, and girlfriend, non-celebrity Bella Su, were present to conduct the traditional rites at the funeral parlour. A number of his fans were seen waiting at the gates of the funeral parlour as well.
That afternoon, Godfrey’s management agency announced that his funeral service will be held at 8am on December 15 at Taipei’s First Funeral Parlour. They added that it will be open to the public to give fans the opportunity to send him off.
The funeral hall has already been filled up with various flower baskets sent in by his close friends and colleagues, including Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chi-ling, whose message reads, “To you who was always so warm, be at ease and fly high.”
Another flower basket that was sent in by “Papa and Mama Su” is believed to have come from the parents of Godfrey’s girlfriend, Bella. Part of the message on the card that came with the flower basket reads, “Continue [your] predestined love in your dreams.”
Although the couple never revealed their relationship to the public, Bella had often posted pictures with Godfrey’s pet dog on her Instagram. The couple is believed to have been dating for three years.
Bella also sent her own flower basket with a message addressed to “Zhixiang” (Godfrey’s birth name) that says, “Rest in peace, be at ease, and fly high.”
Additionally, the picture used for Godfrey’s memorial is one of the actor in a white suit, smiling widely. When asked for the reason behind the choice of photo, Godfrey’s management agency explained that the photo “expresses Godfrey’s warm image that exists in the hearts of his friends and loved ones”. Godfrey’s mother also personally likes that picture, which was why it was chosen.
