Gillian Chung and her doctor husband Michael Lai might have only registered their marriage in December 2018, but rumours of their marriage breaking down have already started circulating.

After less than half a year of marriage, Hong Kong media outlets claimed that Gillian was unhappy with her life in Taiwan and has even gone as far as to rent a place of her own. With such speculation gaining traction online, a mutual friend of the couple stepped out to dispel the rumours, saying that the pair get along very well.

Michael, who turned 30 this week, indirectly shot down the speculation with photos taken on his birthday. The pair, who were dressed in matching robes, posed for the camera and looked far from the warring couple that the media made them out to be.

His caption, “I had a very happy week. A big thank you to my wife for surprising me. I love you,” have also effectively put the gossip to rest.

On Gillian’s end, she updated her Instagram on May 24 with a photo of her and her husband posing behind a cake. She wrote, “It’s finally your 30th birthday. Happy birthday hubby!” Her close friend Charlene Choi also commented on the picture, wishing Michael a happy birthday.
