Gigi Leung thinks Song-Song couple divorce is “a shame”

South Korean stars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have made headlines all over the world with the news of their divorce, but Hong Kong singer-actress Gigi Leung says she hopes the public can give them some space.

“I think it’s such a shame [their marriage had to end], because they are both so successful and seemed to be living fairytale-like lives,” Gigi said during a radio interview in Hong Kong yesterday (Jun 27). “But us outsiders may never know what goes on behind closed doors, so I think fans should respect their privacy.”

The 43-year-old, who was promoting her new track ‘Goodbye Cinderella’, was then asked if her 4-year-old daughter Sofia knows how to sing along to her songs. “She has heard the song, but she can’t memorise the Cantonese lyrics, so she usually makes up her own words to sing along with the melody!” she chuckled. “I usually communicate with her in English, and she listens to English songs more often.”

Still, this has not stopped Gigi from considering a collaboration with her daughter, at least when the latter is a little older. “I thought it was very heart-warming to see Ronald Cheng and his daughter performing on stage together,” she explained. “But for now, bringing Sofia with me into the recording studio would be a waste of time because she still hasn’t learned to properly pronounce words yet. (Laughs)”
