Gao Yunxiang’s lawyers blast sexual assault accuser’s statements as inconsistent
The Chinese actor was arrested in March after a female production crew member accused him of sexual assault
Chinese actor Gao Yunxiang (also known as Gavin Gao) was arrested in Sydney this March after a woman claimed that he, along with producer Jing Wang, sexually assaulted her. The woman, who is a female production crew member, worked with the pair on upcoming drama Love in Aranya.
The trio, along with the rest of the cast and crew, was reported to have been having a wrap party to mark the end of filming. There, CCTV footage showed that she had been consensually participating in affectionate behaviour, including kissing and cuddling, with the producer.
Following which, the trio headed to Jing Wang’s hotel room, where the alleged sexual assault took place. She claims that they forced sexual intercourse and oral sex on her.
Gao Yunxiang faces nine charges in court, including aggravated assault in company, aggravated indecent assault in company and depriving liberty. However, his lawyer has asked for the woman involved to give evidence at a committal hearing as he blasted her previous statements as inconsistent.
Saying that her statements are contradictory to one another, he argued that he should be able to cross-examine her before it is decided if the matter should go to trial. He is reported to have said that she made up the entire incident so that she could avoid telling the truth to her husband.
The case has been adjourned until next week.
