Gao Yuanyuan reveals why she strayed away from showbiz

Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan has appeared in more endorsement advertisements than on the big screen after getting married to fellow actor Mark Chao three years ago. During a recent promotion for her upcoming film Sons of the Neon Night, she disclosed why she chose to take on less acting opportunities.

Yuanyuan cited having to look after her parents as one of the main reasons. She felt that as both her and Mark were actors, they had very busy schedules and there would be times where neither of them were home. Therefore, she chose to reduce her acting gigs so as to be able to spend more time at home with her elders.

She added that she was now going to dedicate most of her time to her family and only take on the films that she really wanted to star in. Mark was very grateful for her actions and acknowledged that between the two of them, she was the one who had made more sacrifices.

The 37-year-old has also always been the centre of pregnancy rumours after her marriage. However, the couple have never acknowledged these claims and have mentioned that they were in no rush to have children but would rather, ‘let nature take its course’.

Yuanyuan said that another reason was due to the entertainment industry getting tougher and requiring more effort in the recent years. She revealed that even with her success, she still had much self-doubt over the years and found it difficult to always put on the best appearance for her fans.

Sons of the Neon Night is an upcoming gangster film that features other notable celebrities such as Louis Koo, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Richie Ren.
