The upcoming live-action remake of the classic animated movie, Mulan, by Disney has gotten many people excited, with much online furore over the casting decisions and featured characters.
Chinese actress Liu Yifei, was confirmed to be playing the titular character, Hua Mulan earlier this year. Mulan is described as a spunky youth who joins the Chinese imperial army disguised as a male, in place of her father.
Last night, the movie’s official Twitter account released a picture of Yifei as Mulan on their account, to the delight of fans. In the picture, Yifei, who is dressed in a red robe, poses with a gleaming sword in one hand, with her signature jet black hair fanned out. With a calm and poised expression on her face, Yifei looks ready to take on the heavy role of Mulan, with the praises of netizens and fans further driving the point home.
The movie is set to premiere in March 2020, and stars Yifei as Mulan, Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen as Mulan’s advisor, Chinese actor Jet Li as the emperor, as well as Chinese actress Gong Li as the villain.
