That's right. Our very own Fiona Xie, Pierre Png and Tan Kheng Hua were revealed to be part of the cast of the highly-anticipated film. The good news was announced this morning by Kevin Kwan, author of the international bestseller-turned-Hollywood-movie, on his Instagram. It’s unclear what roles they will take on at this point, while the actors have declined to comment more on the casting.
The trio joins an international, all-Asian cast, including New York-based rapper and personality Awkwafina, British-Chinese actress Jing Lusi (Lucky Man), Australian actor Chris Pang (Marco Polo) and Malaysia-born, New York-based comedian Ronny Chieng, who is a senior correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Previously, it was revealed that Brit-Malaysian host Henry Golding will play the lead role in the Jon M. Chu-directed film adaptation of the best-selling book about wealthy Chinese families in Singapore.
The film follows American-born Chinese professor Rachel Chu (played by Fresh of the Boat actress and Twitter queen Constance Wu) who travels with her Singaporean boyfriend, Nick Young, back to his Singapore home for his best friend’s wedding. There, she discovers that he’s not only the heir to his family’s massive fortune but also Asia's most eligible bachelor. Rachel juggles coming to grips with his world of excess while facing obstacles from Nick’s family, including his domineering mother (played by Michelle Yeoh) and a bevy of green-eyed socialites who want a piece of him too.
The filming of Crazy Rich Asians begins today. It will be shot entirely in Singapore and Malaysia.
