Well, it did but not for that aforementioned reason. Sure, people are talking about how Nic seems to be gazing lovingly at Faye — um, isn’t he wearing sunnies? Then again, what’s logic when it comes to lurve on the Internet? But what also seems to be getting netizens in a tizzy are the two uncles in the photo. Did the guy next to Faye and Nic actually know who he’s seated next to? And if he did, was he basking in their star power, which could explain his dumbfounded expression?

Then there’s the uncle in the background who may seem like he’s sending a text message on his phone but we all know he’s snapping a photo of the couple, and clearly not being very discreet about it. Not that we’re judging him ’cos that’s exactly what we would do if we were to ever bump into Faye and Nic.

Probably the most iconic photo of the couple. Tony Leung Chiu Wai had just won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in In The Mood For Love, and when he returned to Hongkong, he threw a party to celebrate the win. By then, rumours were already rife that Faye, who was a 31-year-old divorced mother-of-one, and Nic, only 20 then, were a couple, though no one expected them to show up to the shindig together. The paparazzi, who were already staking out the party, went crazy and a media scrum ensued. Things hit fever pitch when Faye took the initiative to hold Nic’s hand and just like that one of showbiz’s most talked-about couples was born.

The peak of the Faye-Nic romance, well, at least during the earlier part of their relationship. They would break up a year later and reconcile in 2014.  

By now, there was already talk that Faye, who had just divorced Li Yapeng, and Nic were a couple again. But it was hearsay until they were snapped by the paparazzi canoodling in Faye’s new apartment in Beijing. ​​​​​​​

The couple was spotted waiting outside Faye’s manager Katie Chan’s apartment in Hongkong. Faye was in Hongkong for Carina Lau’s birthday, though Nic was a no-show at the party.

They were seen taking a stroll – “like an old married couple” wrote a reporter – around a small Beijing neighbourhood. Nic’s arm was around Faye, who was holding a thermos flask.

It seems winter is a good time for some Faye and Nic-spotting. This time they were seen getting handsy with each other, and by that we mean a cheeky Faye was snapped grabbing Nic’s hand and stuffing it in his pocket to keep both their hands warm. Awww...
