Fan Bingbing set to make acting comeback

Two movie directors have hinted that the actress will be returning to work soon

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing might just be returning to the silver screen very soon.

In a video interview that took place last month, British director Simon Kinberg, who is based in America, revealed that that plans are in place for the spy thriller 355 to begin filming this year.

Bingbing graced the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in May last year with American actress Jessica Chastain, Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong'o, French actress-singer Marion Cotillard, Spanish actress Penelopé Cruz and Simon to announce the birth of 355. The movie features the actresses as international spies, and is set to be a female-led movie.

In the same interview, Simon also confirmed that all of the cast members who had walked the red carpet together last year are “more than interested” and have since “committed to" in appearing in the movie. Simon shared that a final draft of the script for 355, which is produced by Jessica, has been settled, and that they are in the midst of finding male actors for the supporting roles in the movie.

In other related news, Chinese director Li Yu, who has previously worked with Bingbing on a number of films, including Buddha Mountain and Double Xposure, has also hinted at a possible collaboration with the actress soon. A fan had commented on one of Li Yu’s posts, asking if she will collaborate once more with Bingbing, with the director herself penning down a reply to the fan’s question. Though her answer was a simple “Soon”, Li Yu’s reply, coupled with Simon’s interview earlier that week raised expectations for the actress’s comeback.
