Ella Chen used to “dislike kids” before the arrival of her son

S.H.E member Ella Chen recently shared more about her personal life in an interview, admitting that she never used to like kids until the arrival of her son Daniel in 2017, which changed everything.

The 38-year-old, who has always been candid and frank with her words, shared that being a mum is hard for her, as she has “only been a mum for two years”.

“I’ve been on this earth for 38 years, a wife for seven years, and a celebrity for 18 years. It’s hard to be a mum because the future holds so many unknowns, and I still have to face his (Daniel’s) rebellious phase and be responsible for his growth into an adult,” said the singer-actress, who tied the knot with Malaysian businessman Alvin Lai in 2012.

However, that’s not to say that Ella doesn’t have a game plan ready, as she shared that she hopes to develop a good relationship with Daniel so that there will be mutual respect between them.

The singer-actress went on to share that the arrival of Daniel has changed her from someone who used to be “rash" and who “disliked kids”.

“After you become a mother, you have an additional worry. I worry about my child’s future, and the environment he grows up in. As Daniel suffers from atopic dermatitis when it gets too hot in the summer, I will worry for him and the Earth,” she said.

“As a mother, what has changed the most is my attitude in this aspect. Of course, I feel that I’ve matured as well, and I’m not as rash as before. I also understand that I have to be patient towards him. Even if a situation arises where I can’t stand it anymore, I’d tell myself to calm down.”

Continuing, Ella spoke about Daniel’s personality, sharing that he is similar to her, as they aren’t afraid to openly express their emotions.

“He loves to hug and kiss me, and I’m always his first choice no matter what he does. I often feel really touched by this. The actions of kids are always honest and genuine, and I think that his personality is very cute. Just like me, he’s someone who isn’t afraid to express his emotions.”
