It has got to be the most controversial Golden Horse Awards ever. And the effects of that night is still rippling through showbiz. Rumour has it that the ceremony’s host, Matilda Tao, has been banned from working in China. According to Apple Daily, when Matilda was introducing the judging committee, she completely missed out Gong Li, who just happens to be the committee’s chairman. Netizens quickly jumped to the conclusion that Matilda has some kind of beef with the Chinese actress but the host has since clarified that she had asked Gong Li during the commercial break if she wanted to be on camera, to which she declined. Matilda also stressed that “after repeated confirmation, [she] decided not to bother her.” But Chinese netizens did not buy Matilda’s explanation and have labelled her as a pro-Taiwan independence supporter. They have also appealed to all the major Chinese TV stations to stop working with the host.
