Did Gao Yunxiang divorce his wife to protect their assets?

Chinese actor Gao Yunxiang (also known as Gavin Gao) hogged the headlines for months after he was reported to have sexually assaulted a female crew member in Australia in March last year. He has since been released on bail and was even spotted out and about in the country.

There have been little updates as the case has yet to be concluded, but if recent Chinese reports are to be believed, the 36-year-old has secretly filed for divorce from Chinese actress Xuan Dong. He and Xuan Dong have a 2-year-old daughter together.

A source claiming to be close to the actor shared that the pair completed the paperwork in May, and the reason behind their separation was so that they can keep their assets separate. While Yunxiang’s career has come to a standstill pending the result of the court case, Xuan Dong is still able to continue with her life as an actress.

In addition, he was also sued for causing the broadcast of drama The Legend of Ba Qing to be delayed. Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was reported to have invested NT$1.2 billion (approximately S$53.8 million) into the show.

When Xuan Dong’s label was contacted about this report, the person on the other line claimed not to be part of the company’s staff, and shared that he would not be able to comment on the matter.
