Hong Kong actress Carina Lau is not just an actress but also a shrewd investor as well. She was even named the richest female celebrity investor in China in 2015. Last May, she uploaded a selfie of herself wearing a diamond tiara. Later, she shared that the tiara was something that she had bought as a gift for herself.
The actress also shared more about her hobbies in an interview, where she revealed that she has always had an interest in collecting jewellry and art. When she came across the diamond tiara, she fell in love with it after trying it on.
As the tiara was crafted in 1906, it is considered a historically significant piece, which might have added to its hefty price tag. Carina declined to share the exact price she paid for it, laughing that she does not dare to tell her husband, Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai, the exact price. After the interview was published, a netizen familiar with antique jewellery commented that the diadem is estimated to cost around HKD$10 million (S$1.74 million).
In June, jewellery brand Cartier and the Palace Museum in Beijing collaborated for the Beyond Boundaries: Cartier and The Palace Museum Craftsmanship and Restoration Exhibition, showcasing art and fine goods dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
One particular diamond tiara which was part of the exhibition caught the eye of a netizen, who uploaded a picture of it online. The tiara, which was stated as belonging to a "private collection" was believed to be Carina’s. Later, it was revealed that the actress agreed to lend it to Cartier for the exhibition.
