The first ever MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards (MGA) was held in Seoul on November 6, with many of Korea's top artists in attendance.
BTS were the biggest winners of the night, scooping up two grand prizes (Best Artist of the Year and Best Digital Album of the Year), as well as Best Male Dance Performance, Best Male Group and Genie Music Popularity Award.
During their acceptance speech for Best Digital Album of the Year, member Suga said, "We've always wanted to have a good influence on others through our music, so it's an honour to be able to convey our message worldwide with this album." Jin added, "This album contains the message that we should love ourselves, so I hope everyone loves themselves and is always happy."
After receiving Best Artist of the Year, leader RM mused, "This award isn't just due to our efforts, but also luck and the love from many people who are watching us. We won't take this award for granted and will try hard to make up for anything we lack." Both Jimin and Jungkook humbly stated that although they think they still lack a lot, they will continue to work hard to become better artists.
The group also treated fans to a special collaboration with American singer Charlie Puth, who teamed up with Jungkook for a performance of 'We Don't Talk Anymore' before joining the entire group on stage for 'Fake Love'.
TWICE were also triumphant at the ceremony, nabbing the grand prize for Best-Selling Artist of the Year, as well as trophies for Best Female Group and Best Global Performance. "Without ONCE [the fandom name], TWICE would be able to stand here," said leader Jihyo during their acceptance speech. Chaeyoung also shared a word of encouragement to her fellow members.
The grand prize for Best Song of the Year went to Wanna One for their track 'Beautiful', in addition to their awards for Best Male Vocal Performance (also for 'Beautiful') and the MBC Plus Star Award. "We won't be satisfied with just this award and will work even harder to become a better Wanna One," said member Kang Daniel during the group's acceptance speech.
