Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong’s
intercountry reunion with his Australian half-brothers dominated headlines when it was reported in March.

The 56-year-old had set off to find his father, a former British Hong Kong government official, but was told that his father had passed on and never once mentioned him and his mother while he was alive.

Yesterday, Hong Kong news media reported that the actor was abandoned by his father when he was 4 years old. His departure caused Anthony’s mother to sink into depression, and she fed Anthony detergent powder in a bid to take both their lives together.

According to reports, Anthony’s mother regretted her decision when he started to foam at the mouth, and rushed him to the hospital to seek treatment.

When Anthony was 12, his mother was diagnosed with Pulmonary Vascular Dilation, a medical condition where the pulmonary artery is found to be wider than usual, and had to undergo surgery. At that time, the actor was living in a boarding school, and prayed for his mother’s wellbeing every night.

Like other rebellious teenagers, Anthony was said to have quarreled with his mother on many occasions and even left home, causing his mother to throw up blood in anger. As his mother is currently suffering from dementia and can no longer hold a conversation with him, Anthony regrets his rebellious behaviour, and told the media he wished he had talked to her more before she fell ill.Photo: PBE MediaRelated:
