Andy Lau cancels concert tour due to throat infection

Hong Kong singer-actor Andy Lau marked his music comeback following a horse-riding accident that landed him in the hospital for months last year with a grand concert tour, My Love Andy Lau World Tour.

Kicking off with 20 concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, the 57-year-old dazzled fans and celebrity colleagues night after night, with choreographed dance numbers and ballads alike. The Heavenly King’s wife, Malaysian beauty queen Carol Chu, and their 6-year-old daughter, Hanna Lau, were spotted at the concerts as well.

However, the 14th Hong Kong concert, which was held on December 28, came to an abrupt end, with Andy breaking down in tears after sharing that he had been diagnosed with the flu and a throat infection.

During the fourth song, Andy stopped the music and addressed the audience, saying, “ The doctor advised me to stop singing, but I really can’t bear (to stop). I don’t wish for everyone to hear me finish the concert with this voice, but I really have no choice. Thus, after finishing ‘If One Day’, I’ll have to stop the concert.”

In tears, Andy shared that he will slowly make arrangements for his work commitments in the days to come. “I will work hard to finish this song, and hope that you guys will sing along with me. I wish to apologise and express my thanks to you guys - a round of applause for yourselves!” he said.

When the song ended, Andy went to all four corners of the stage to bow to his fans, before going backstage.

Although fans were disappointed, they were also very understanding, and cheered endlessly for Andy. The organisers also released details for refunds as soon as they could. However, fans who had flown in from other countries for the concerts couldn’t help but to express their sadness at the missed opportunity to see Andy live.

After the concert, a number of Andy’s good friends and fellow celebrity colleagues posted messages of support for the Heavenly King online, cheering him on.
