Alyssa Chia scores first Golden Bell nomination after 28 years
The nomination list had another veteran first-time nominee as well
Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia has been nominated for her very first Golden Bell Award, often regarded as the Emmys of Taiwan, after 28 years in showbiz.
Alyssa, who debuted at the tender age of 16, was nominated for the Best Actress Award for her performance in The World Between Us, in which she plays the mother of a victim of a mass shooting. Joining her on the shortlist are Taiwanese actresses Cammy Chiang, Herb Hsu, Peggy Tseng and Janel Tsai.
At an press event yesterday (August 28), Alyssa shared her thoughts on being nominated for the first time, thanking the cast and crew of The World Between Us. The drama had amassed a total of 14 nominations amongst the different categories at the Golden Bell Awards.
“Without them, there won’t be me. Being nominated alone is a form of recognition, thank you everyone!” she said.
Another veteran first-time nominee is Taiwanese actor-singer Sam Wang, who was part of the boybands 5566 and 183 Club.
The 42-year-old was nominated for the Best Lifestyle Programme Host for his performance in World’s No 1. The show was also nominated for the Best Lifestyle Programme award.
This is also Sam’s first Golden Bell nomination, after 20 years in the industry.
However, as Sam had just announced his decision to step down as the host for the programme a few days earlier due to conflicting work schedules, the nomination brought about mixed feelings for him. In a statement, he shared his regret at having to “abandon” World’s No 1 due to his packed schedule. He is currently filming for a upcoming reality show, as well as hosting the variety show, 3 Kingdoms.
