On October 5, Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia won her first Golden Bell Award after 29 years in the entertainment industry.
The actress and first-time nominee won the Best Actress award for her performance in the drama, The World Between Us. In her acceptance speech, the actress, who looked to be on the verge of tears, thanked her family, the crew of The World Between Us, as well as her husband, Taiwanese actor Xiu Jie Kai.
Later in her speech, she laughed that she was holding back her tears as she had promised her daughter, 3-year-old Bubu, that she would not cry.
“Before leaving the house, I promised my daughter that I wouldn’t cry. Bubu even said, ‘Mama, I don’t like it when you get emotional’. When I got married, she cried because I was emotional. She doesn’t like it when I don’t smile, so I will fulfill my promise to her,” Alyssa quipped.
The World Between Us picked up five other awards, making it the biggest winner of the night.
Two days after her big win, Alyssa shared a picture on Instagram, writing, “Sending my kids (to school, making) breakfast for them, buying groceries, ferrying the kids around - all these are things that I’m very familiar with. I am still me,” sharing that receiving the award has not changed her in any way.
