Update (Jan 24 5.10pm): Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Goh Si Hou revealed at a press con this afternoon that Aloysius was crushed between the gun barrel of a howitzer and its cabin. “It appears from the initial findings that Aloysius was unable to get out of the way as the gun barrel was lowered,” said MG Goh. “He was caught between the end of the gun barrel and the interior of the SSPH and he suffered crush injuries as a result.”
It’s a sad day for local showbiz. After being hospitalised for four days, Aloysius Pang, 28, has succumbed to his injuries after an SAF training accident. The actor was seriously injured while he was on reservist in New Zealand. While it seemed hopeful that he would recover after several surgeries, things took a turn for the worse and he was placed on artificial life support. On Wednesday (Jan 23), MINDEF released a statement saying that the actor had died.
According to the statement, “Aloysius passed away at 2045hrs on 23 January 2019 (SG time) at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand”. He was “carrying out repair works inside the Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (SSPH) with two other SAF personnel” when he “sustained injuries when the gun barrel was lowered”. The MINDEF statement also said that “despite surgical attempts to repair damaged organs and putting him on artificial life support, CFC (NS) Pang succumbed to the injuries and passed away.”
Celebs took to social media to post tributes and express their sadness and disbelief, and to mourn and remember Aloysius, who was well-loved among his peers and seniors in showbiz. Rest in peace, Aloy. You will be missed.
