Aaron Yan shares the heartbreaking story behind Yoga Lin’s song ‘Unrequited’

Taiwanese singer-actor Aaron Yan opened up the heartbreaking story behind his first love on a recent episode of talk show Roast!, where he mentioned that Yoga Lin’s song, ‘Unrequited’, was written based on his past experience.

The 34-year-old shared that he told his good friend, songwriter Chen Xin Yan, about his first love, and was later written as the lyrics of a song. Aaron chuckled, “I thought that the song was for me. It was only later that I found out that it was for Yoga Lin!”

When asked about the line in the lyrics that goes ‘I loved you for six years’, Aaron clarified, “I dated my first love for two years. In that time, we only met six times (...) After we broke up, I spent six years forgetting this person.”

He shared that after the breakup, he was but a shell of his former self and spent years trying to heal his wounds.

To make matters worse, after the split, he would often run into his ex on the streets. He mused, “Fate is funny. When we were together, it was so hard for us to see each other. After breaking up, I didn’t want to see the other party, but we ended up seeing each other so many times that it took an even longer time for our wounds to heal.”
