Remember Maggie Cheung the Hongkong screen goddess who has all but disappeared from the public eye? Sadly, this story is not about the 53-year-old making her comeback – oh, how we wish! But this is as good as it gets. A photo of Maggie, who retired from acting in 2006, recently made its way on the Internet after a woman Instagrammed a pic she took with the former actress who she met at Iron Fairies, a bar in Hongkong. It’s said that Maggie, who apart from the occasional event appearance has stayed out of the spotlight for the most of the last decade, was there to attend a party.
The pic of course generated a lot of online chatter, with many netizens noting that Maggie looks healthy and happier, at least compared to when she was in showbiz. She had quit acting to focus on her other interests like music.
Maggie, a former Miss Hongkong 1983 runner-up, is one of Asian cinema’s most-loved screen icons. Her cool, languid beauty made her a star, but it was her sublime ability to disappear into any role that made her a legend.
