This will be the most ambitious Star Awards show ever.

As if gathering all the celebs in local showbiz together for one night wasn't enough of a spectacle, this year’s Star Awards is taking the event to a whole other level by holding it at two iconic landmarks, Changi Airport Terminal 4 and the HSBC Rain Vortex at Jewe l.

In case you haven’t heard, this Sunday’s (Apr 18) awards ceremony takes place at various areas within the airport, and is set to wow viewers with the glamour of showbiz and the (much-missed) wanderlust of travel, featuring Singapore Airlines (SIA) aircraft to an aviation-themed musical, even rolling out the red carpet on the tarmac.

It’s ambitious, to say the least, not to mention a logistical nightmare to put together, but not that surprising coming from executive producer Jean Toh. After all, the industry pro, who has four Star Awards shows under her belt, has organised some of the most memorable ceremonies. Remember the illuminated dome, holograms and “floating” catwalk platform circa Star Awards 2018? Yup, that was her too.

“Since everyone can’t travel now and misses flying, we felt it would be great to take the audience to areas that we won’t have access to, like the T4 transit area, boarding gates, tarmac, and showcase the artistes in their glamorous airport fashion,” Jean tells 8days.sg.

“And of course we can’t miss Jewel ‘cos it’s internationally renowned and an iconic landmark of Singapore. It is also to show everyone that Singapore is ready to take flight again.”

Jean takes us behind the scenes and shares the challenges of putting a show of this magnitude together.

Traffic-stopping airport fashion

The stars will strut their stuff and do their Walk of Fame on the airport tarmac, making this year’s red carpet segment a show-stopper in more ways than one. Leisure travel might have come to a standstill, but the airport runway is still operational, though the taxiway has to be cleared for everyone to put their best Louboutin-sheathed foot forward.
