One of Singapore’s coolest stars has somehow gotten cooler.

How Being A Natural Beauty Is Working Out For Julie Tan’s Career In China

So this is what it’s like to get under the sheets with Julie Tan. In this week’s cover story, we get real comfy in bed (chatting, of course) with the former Ch 8 star in a luxurious two-bedroom suite at Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore. Since leaving Mediacorp in June — a decision that she says was “very scary” — the actress, 24, has been on a journey that is as much about self-discovery as it is about getting discovered. “I left not knowing what I was going to do,” she says. “I felt so lost and everything. But it was also like ‘Wow, I’m finally scared of something’. And somehow not knowing makes me happy.” This ‘not knowing’ includes jetting back and forth between Singapore and China and going for auditions. The Chinese showbiz industry is notoriously hard to break into, let alone succeed in — the sheer volume of competition in the country makes it about as daunting as entering a Chinese public restroom in summer time. But call it a stroke of luck or a sure sign of her talent — within a month, Julie was cast in a movie, which she’s now in the midst of filming. And while she can’t tell us more about it — she says she’s contractually bound to not say anything — she reveals to us what it’s really like working in China.
