Dennis Chew’s Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes win last Sunday (Apr 18) at the Star Awards was a long time coming for the 47-year-old.
His win means that he would finally be able to ascend the ranks of All-Time Favourite Artiste, joining local showbiz luminaries like Zoe Tay, Li Nanxing and his idol, Fann Wong. So when Dennis' name was called out, his reaction was one of pure relief and joy.
Almost a week later, the LOVE972FM jock took to his Instagram to recap the moments leading up to the announcement of his name, revealing a little tidbit that us viewers at home had missed out on.
As it turned out, Dennis, who was in-charge of hosting and announcing the results at one of the three artiste holding areas that night, was battling a serious case of nerves during the lead-up to his win.
“On that night, they were awarding the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award, and no one present was more nervous than I was. [And so there I was], standing on stage, with a microphone in one hand, and the profiles of the 30 nominees in the other. If the names of any of the artistes in my group won, I’d have to congratulate them straightaway, and quickly read out their past achievements immediately after. It wasn’t difficult at all, and the production team had very kindly arranged for me to be able to place the microphone and cue cards on the award platform if my name happened to be read out as one of the winners that night, so that I could retrieve them easily after I finished my award acceptance speech.” Dennis wrote, setting the scene for his followers.
