Greta (NC16)
Starring Isabella Huppert, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maika Monroe

Directed by Neil Jordan

“In Manhattan, you find a bag, you call the bomb squad,” a friend tells Chloë Grace Moretz’s Frances, a naïve lass who finds a handbag on the New York subway. Instead of handing said property over to Lost & Found, she diligently returns it to the titular owner (Isabella Huppert), a lonely widow. Baaad idea. The two connect and become instant friends, almost like mother and daughter. Just when things are getting dandy, Frances discovers her newfound pal’s creepier — and deadlier — side. Anchored by Huppert’s eerily elegant performance, this tale of obsession, by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game), is an enjoyable throwback to Single White Female and Fatal Attraction, so long as you don’t obsess over some of the dumb choices the characters make. SMRT should use this movie as a training video for its security staff. (***)
