The brand's most iconic palette is being discontinued, and beauty junkies are shook. Launched in 2010, the original Naked palette was an instant bestseller, with 30 million palettes sold worldwide, and spawned spin-off palettes such as Naked 2, Naked 3, Naked Heat and thousands of similar nude eyeshadow palettes across the make-up industry. UD founder Wende Zomnir says that bidding adieu to the iconic palette was bittersweet, "but it’s also essential to always evolve." Guess it's making way for bigger and better things, then? Don't worry, the rest of the Naked palettes, Naked 2, 3, Heat, Smoky and Basics will continue to be available. A quick check on the Sephora.sg website already shows that dreaded "Out of Stock" strap across the Naked palette, which is $83. The stores probably still have stocks, so, um, run there this weekend?
The Naked Palette, 2010-2018, RIP
Urban Decay even held a funeral for the Naked, and you're all invited (to watch it on YouTube). Throw purple rose petals and mourn the loss of your fave shades like Virgin and Gunmetal. So much drama for a discontinued item of make-up, and such a master stroke of marketing and social media genius.
Eulogy by Nicole Richie, OG priestess of of smoky-eyed cool
The funeral was apparently held in Newport Beach, California and attended by Nicole Richie and beauty influencers like Kandee Johnson, Christen Dominique, Katy DeGroot, Shayla Mitchell and Chrisspy, who gathered to pay their last respects at the Naked Palette. Their tear-shedding theatrics are quite cringingly funny.
The Naked palette is officially dead.
Will its ashes be made into a brand new Urban Decay palette whom women will happily splash $83 on? Probably. Till then, you can still buy it at stores while stocks last. And stocks probably won't last for very long. Countries like the US are offering the palette at half price, but it's still $83 here. Rest in peace, Naked.
