Universal Studios Beijing’s Kung Fu Panda-Themed Hotel Room Looks Like “Hell”, Say Netizens
Turns out red lanterns aren’t suitable for a family-friendly resort.
Universal Studios Beijing is having its grand opening next week on Sept 20, with two hotels situated within its premises including The Universal Studios Grand Hotel.
The hotel offers themed rooms like the Kung Fu Panda room, which is modelled after the DreamWorks movie franchise. Unfortunately, it caught flak for looking like, erm, hell.
Eerie red lanterns
As Kung Fu Panda is set in ancient China, the room is bedecked with red lanterns, kitschy trishaw-shaped beds and bamboo accoutrements. Netizens complained that the red glow cast by the lanterns over the room made one feel like they’re in Hades. The elaborate beds, they say, also remind them of a “creepy” afterlife nuptial chamber.
We get what they mean
There’s no predicting where these trishaw beds will take you to in your dreams.
Even Po can’t save you
The bed appears to be decorated with a bunch of cute character plushies, though we expect Master Oogway to appear and say: “Your time has come.”

The rest of the room ain’t too bad
However in the daytime, the room looks like a regular resort themed room filled with Kungfu Panda merch.
Not that creepy.
