These Travel Insurance Policies Come With Covid-19 Coverage — Absolutely Essential If You're Planning A VTL Trip
Travel insurance has never been more important.
What happens if you get Covid-19 before or during your travels? As leisure travel is getting its long-awaited gradual restart with Vaccinated Travel Lanes, there isn’t a better time to start looking into travel insurance.
After all, not all travel insurance policies were made equal. A fair number of travel insurance plans now come with Covid-19-related benefits, but it’s the fine print that you really need to take note of. What happens if you get Covid-19 overseas? Will travel insurance cover your trip extension if you test positive for Covid-19 and have to self-isolate in a hotel?
Here’s a list of travel insurance policies to consider before you jet off for your vacay. One thing you should take note of: This list highlights only Covid-19 coverage and benefits; for full policy coverage including non-Covid-19 coverage, please click on respective links.
AIG Travel Guard Direct
How much? We checked prices based on countries currently on Singapore's VTL list, across the continents. It ranges from $39 (basic plan) to $107 (supreme plan) for a three-day trip to Korea or Australia, and $57 to $152 for the UK; and $60 to $170 for the US.
What else to know: Travel delays due to failing a Covid-19 test or medical screening at the airport will not be covered under travel delays.
Aviva Travel Insurance
How much? For a three-day trip, it ranges from $30.62-$61.61 for Korea and Australia, and $45.50-$97.09 for UK and USA.
What else to know: You’re eligible only if you’re fully vaccinated prior to the trip, and are not travelling against any travel advisory issued by the Singapore government.
Great Eastern TravelSmart Premier
NTUC Income Travel Insurance
How much? From $48.80 per pax for a three-day trip to South Korea or Australia; from $65.80 per pax for UK or US.
What else to know: NTUC Income’s enhanced Covid-19 travel insurance coverage covers all countries except Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan and Syria. Travellers are eligible for Covid-19 coverage as long as they meet all vaccination, pre-deparature tests and post-arrival tests requirements by the destination countries or transport operators.
Sompo Travel (Covid-19) Insurance
How much? $41-$54 to Korea or Australia for three days; $58-$74 for UK or USA.
What else to know: If you’re fully vaccinated, you do not have to take a PCR test to be eligible to purchase. However, if not fully-vaccinated prior to the trip, you are required to have a negative PCR test result 72 hours prior to departing Singapore. You must also be complying with travel advisories issued by the Singapore government. Covers all countries except Afghanistan, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Somalia, Sudan and Syria.
FWD Covid-19 Enhanced Travel Benefit
Unlike the other travel insurance plans on this list, FWD’s Covid-19 coverage is an add-on benefit that requires an additional fee, on top of the travel insurance premium.
How much? For Asia (including Australia and NZ): $13-$22, plus $12.27 for Covid-19 coverage. Worldwide (excluding USA): $19-$31, plus $16.87 for Covid-19 coverage. Worldwide: $20-$35, plus $17.63 for Covid-19 coverage
What else to know: To be eligible, you must never have tested positive for Covid-19 before.
