Hong Kong’s Cherry Blossom Season Is In Full Swing — Here’s Where To Go Sakura-Spotting In HK

You don’t have to wait until March to fly to Japan to see sakura. Over at Hong Kong, cherry blossom season has arrived earlier than usual, and certain spots in Hong Kong are awash in pink with sakura trees are in peak bloom right now.
Among the top pink-tastic spots to view sakura is at the foot of Chek Lap Kok’s Scenic Hill in Tung Chung Crescent. There are about 100 cherry blossom trees that are in full bloom right now. These trees were planted by the Airport Authority in 2021, and the airport garden, now dubbed ‘Sakura Avenue’, is a beautiful sea of pink that even locals have been flocking to the photo-worthy garden.
It’s situated close to the Ngong Ping 360 cable car attraction, so you can also opt to go on a cable car ride to enjoy fantastic bird’s eye views of the sea of pink flowers beneath.
To get to the airport garden with the sakura trees, head to Chek Lap Kok South Road, which is about a 20- to 30-minute walk from Tung Chung MTR Station (look for Exit B and walk towards Ngong Ping 360).
According to reports, sakura season in Hong Kong is usually from February to April.
If you’re keen on visiting Hong Kong for free, mark Mar 1 on your calendar. That’s when Hong Kong’s giving away 500,000 air tickets to visitors worldwide (but no guarantee you’ll make it in time for sakura season there, though).
